Malawi : Nkhata Bay

View over the bay from my dorm bed. Mayoka Village as the hostel is called is not really a beach resort in the classic sense. It's built up against a cliff which means that even on the lazy days, you were getting a workout walking up and down the steep stairs. Butterfly Space More clear blue water, more fresh water snorkeling fun
As I said, there is no beach at Mayoka Village. Just a stairway that leads down in to underwater heaven. View from my bed at night. Walking towards Nkhata Bay town

Another view over the bay at night. Fraser and Jasmijn here are preparing a "Sex on the Bleach" cocktail, which to our surprise was actually quite good.
Especially since we weren't quite sure if the contents of the large white flacon would actually be drinkable alcohol, or would in fact turn out to be bleach.

For those still in Malawi, here is the "Sex on the Bleach" cocktail recipe:
Kadansama Gin (43% alcohol)
Pineapple Sobo Squash
Orange Sobo Squash
Filtered lake water
Freshly squeezed Lemon
Sugarcane Sugar

In Malawi, the sun is always either rising or setting. Some of the chalets at Mayoka Village

Jacqueline It wasn't easy getting to Nkhata bay. It was to either spend a week on the island and sail directly to the bay, or double back and spend a whole day on the boat and a night in Nkotakota, only to discover it had no ATM's. Then spend another day traveling past Nkhata Bay to get to Mzuzu, and spend a night there. It was the closest place with an ATM. The next morning, I was finally where I was supposed to be. After a few days of Nkhata Bay, it was a taxi ride to Lilongwe. It took us just a few hours to get there! The next day, I was on a plane back home.. unfortunatly.
