China : Tiger Leaping Gorge

After leaving Lijiang, we first went off to visit another monastery in the area. The road to the monastery was lined with prayer flags. Very welcoming. By the afternoon, we had arrived in a little village in the mountains not too far from the first bend of the yangtze river.
Here, we were welcomed into the home of a friendly family.
A strange contraption used by many of the farmers here. Our hike to the first bend and then back to the valley.
Hicking towards the valley Once in the valley, we spent a night at a guesthouse. The next day, we headed off to the Tiger Leaping Gorge. It is named that way, because according to the legend, the Yangtze river here is so narrow here, a Tiger was able to leap over it on to the other side.
The Yangtze river here slices through the outskirts of the Himalaya range with peaks of around 5 kilometers high. Our trail followed the river from above at hight of around 3000 meters.
But getting to the trail from the river valley was no easy task and it would become our toughest hike yet.
We had to bridge about 1300 meters in hight in a single morning on a steep climb through the '28 bends'. While we were sweating like hell, we came across an old woman doing the very same trail with a harvest filled bag. Respect. View of the Jade Dragon Snow mountains on the other side of the river.
Resting with the old lady. You tend to feel very small in place like this. The Yangtze flowingdown below.
The trail at many places isn't very wide and with no protection if you fall. It was also very slippery at places and the slopes next to it steep. The Chinees don't do safety very well, so one mistake and you're on your way down. Forever.
The trail Our path trail was interupted by this waterfall. You can grasp the scale of this place ones you notice the little people in this photo. Posing at the halfway guesthouse
