One of the main roads through Dali old town Discovering the Chinees street cuisine. The life line of the town:
A series of narrow canals within the city provides running water for its inhabbitants. It plays an important part of their daily lives.
One of the many food stands Dali is knwon for its colorful wood paintings Dali by night
Dali is protected by a fortified wall that goes all the way around it. This is one of the four gates to enter or leave the city. The watch tower above the west gate. Red lantern
Zhongsheng Monastery:
In the distance, you can see one of the three pagodas. The chinees were already building skyscrapers in the ninth centuray. The one here is the tallest at 70 meters high. Zhongsheng Monastery:

Zhongsheng Monastery:
Never in my life have I seen so many gold fish all at once. The Zhongsheng Monastery is a huge complex built at the foot of Yinglo Peak.
Behind this temple, you will find another courtyard followed by another temple. And after that, another courtyard with a temple. It just goes on and on.
If I remember right, there are some 26 main temples (not including the side buildings), one after the other, plus the three pagodas. Zhongsheng Monastery:
Because of the fog, it was difficult to see the scale of this place in a single glance.
Zhongsheng Monastery:
It is probably even larger then the Forbidden City Zhongsheng Monastery:

Later that day, we went cycling between the rice fields and little villages outside of Dali I've never seen anything like this before..
To our disbelief, many of the villages here were covered in blankets of cobwebs. As we cycled down their streets, hundreds of thousand big black spiders literarly hung above our heads. (The little black speks are spiders)

Imagine waking up one morning and finding your street covered in cobwebs. And once the spiders have covered your whole town or city, leaving you with no routes to escape and totally out numbered, they slowly move in for the kill. It would make a great movie. Spiders didn't seem to bother this man. Actually, most of the villagers were more affraid of having their pictures taken, though this man gladly agreed.
